Sports Activities

DSCF1034 Julia.JPGJulia Kang, the School Sports Coordinator (SSCO) for Bulwell Academy and family of schools works two days a week with Academy PE staff and with Primary Link Teachers to develop school sport inside and outside the curriculum. The aim is for all children to access at least five hours of quality physical activity provision per week though a combination of curriculum and extra curricular activities.     

Primary Sports festivals

A series of festivals organised by the SSCO and supported by Bulwell Academy Sports leaders from year 9, 10 and 11

  • Year 1 Multi skills festival - 217 children attending
  • Year 2 Multi skills festival - 201 children attending
  • Year 6 Basketball festival
  • Year 3 Festival - Multi skills focussed around Rugby - 190 children attending
  • Year 4 Festival - Multi skills focussed on Basketball and Netball - 159 children attending
  • Year 3/4 Sports Hall athletics in partnership with Djanogly school - 48 children attending from Bulwell
  • Top Link - 4 schools attending - over 120 children attended - winning school Rufford Junior will go on to represent Bulwell at the Top Link finals on 28 June.

Year 6 rounders tournament at Crabtree Farm school in the Summer Term during National School Sports Week

Sports leaders UK Young Leaders award is also delivered to Year 5 and 6 to support the delivery of lunchtime activities to younger year groups, helping to provide a more structured approach to lunchtime activity.

All primary schools are also offered a range of activities during each half term

  • KS1/KS2 Dance
  • KS1 Fundamental Movement Skills
  • KS1/KS2 Games (net/wall games)
  • KS2 Games (invasion games through URBAN HOCKEY)
  • KS2 Games (invasion games through RUGBY)
  • KS2 Games (invasion games through BASKETBALL
  • Each activity will also provide an after school club for the same half term 

My Community Sport

In 2010 £38,000 was raised by Bulwell EAZ and My community Sport after a successful application to the Pfizer Foundation. The bid was designed to offer local families the opportunity to take part in many activities such as:-

  • 5 weeks of Holiday Activities in Bulwell for up to 40 children per day
  • Additional after school programmes
  • A weekend community sport and health club for up to 30 local young people
  • Sport Leader courses
  • Archer Leader courses
  • Food Hygiene and nutrition courses

Bulwell Academy

As well as a wide variety of activities delivered during Curriculum time we also provide an extensive range of extracurricular sports for all year group in Key stage 3 and 4 in partnership with Bulwell Academy PE department and My Community Sport programme

  • Activities of offer include, Trampolining, Athletics, Indoor Athletics, Rugby, Archery, Boxing, Football, Rowing, Basketball, Netball, Street dance, Strength and conditioning, Parkour, Table tennis, Handball, Golf
  • Students are given opportunities to take part in competitions run by the School Sports Partnership and PE department in many sports.
  • One example of progression for students is Street Hockey - Four leadership academy students delivered an assembly to year 7 students to promote the intra school competition - winners Bowden BizCom competed in the School Sports Partnership Inter school finals and finished runners up.
